Luxury phone manufacturer, Vertu, launches a Web 3.0 phone

Web Development
Over the past decade, mobile phones have become an integral part of our daily lives. They are used for practically everything. From listening to music to playing games, and from watching videos to connecting with friends and family far away, mobile phones have made connectivity easy and convenient.
Luxury phone manufacturer, Vertu, launches a Web 3.0 phone

Yet, today’s traditional mobile phones still have technical bottlenecks and host multiple issues. For example, users’ data privacy and ownership rights are not effectively protected. Furthermore, if a mobile phone is lost or stolen, the user’s entire private information may get exposed to nefarious activities.

However, with the advent of Web 3.0, companies are exploring new avenues where technical support for data security and privacy protection are making waves under the radar. This is because data is digitally confirmed from the source of data generation. Hence, it is fundamentally authentic and reliable.

VERTU — METAVERTU

With the emergence of blockchain and associated “big players”, cryptocurrency and NFTs have become the new luxury. Technology today has gone beyond the traditional norms and now encapsulates Web3, NFTs, and the Metaverse.

On October 24, 2022, during an event, Vertu (a luxury smartphone manufacturer) officially launched its latest model piece — METAVERTU - the world’s first Web 3.0 phone.

Claimed to be a Web 3.0-based smart terminal, Metavertu is the first mobile phone in history to propose the concept of CNCOS. CNCOS is a 5-dimensional integrated ecosystem, which aims to integrate chips, smart terminals, blockchain, operating systems, and high-end services into one phone.

A press note released by the luxury smartphone manufacturer emphasized on the mobile phone being the ideal starting point for users’ digital freedom and blockchain infrastructure, which can, in turn, help them create their own value.

Let’s dive into the specifications to see what the “hyper” mobile phone is capable of:

  • The smartphone is integrated with luxury A-grade materials, in addition to the intricacies of a flagship phone such as - a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, an astounding 18GB RAM, a whopping storage capacity of 1 TB, and 10 TB of distributed online file hosting.

  • With a 6.67 inch, 2400x1080 AMOLED display, and curved sides, this beast mobile phone comes with a refresh rate of 144 Hz. It also homes a triple-lens camera array. The main camera uses a 64 MP sensor combined with optical image stabilization. Furthermore, the secondary ultrawide glass offers a 50 MP view and an 8 MP periscope (inlaid with OIS) completes the trio-camera synergy. The phone is also integrated with a 16MP front-facing selfie camera.

  • As for raw power, the mobile phone holds a 4600mAH battery. Vertu promises that the mobile phone can recharge up to 90% in as less as 20 minutes over a 55W-wired charging. A 15W wireless top-up charge is also provided with the whole package.

  • The exterior of this mobile phone is extravagant. The entry-level model comes with a carbon finish, 12 GB RAM and 512 GB internal storage, and a price point of US $3,600. The top-end models for the phone have 18 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. Users can also choose clothing for the mobile phone with options including “Himalayan Alligator leather”, “18K gold and diamonds” etc. And the price? Well, it goes as high as $41,000.

Vertu’s History

Vertu is banking a lot this time on the Chimp Face NFTs and the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs. Being a market player since 2017, Vertu had its share of failures when Web 3.0 was not even in circulation. At one point, the brand went bankrupt by selling mid-tier smartphones with outrageously expensive finishes to luxury consumers.

The Web 3 Getaway

At the London event, Vertu’s CEO Gary Chan said, “Web 3.0’s complexity is what has turned off new users. It’s hard to understand the basics and move deeper into it. With our smartphones, we want to reinvent the smartphone to de-complicate Web 3.0”.

Keeping the above-mentioned quote in mind, the Metavertu aims to link the bridge for users between Web2 mode to Web3. With this smartphone, users can create a wallet in a few clicks, with private keys protected by the phone's Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), and an access suite of decentralized applications (DApps) through a user-friendly Android-styled interface.

The smartphone also includes Vtalk, an encrypted instant messaging application that can integrate decentralized social networking.

To add the cherry on top, users also get access to 10 TB of distributed storage on IPFS, as well as access to Vertu’s “red button”, a 24/7 concierge service.

Where and how to grab one?

The Metavertu sale will start on November 3, 2022. You can book the smartphone through Vertu's website. Also, a new store is set to open on London’s Bond Street next year.

So, what will your next step be? A move towards technological advancement or a stay at the comfortable corner of iOS and Android?
